This term refers to a contemporary
theology that (1) highlights the history of Hispanics or Latinos in the United States from colonial times to the present; (2) interprets the
Scriptures from a Hispanic or Latino perspective; (3) analyzes a wide range of issues, such as
racism,
discrimination, and marginalization; (4) reflects on popularfaith traditions (
religiosidad popular) in the Hispanic or Latino community; (5) utilizes such resources as the episcopalpastoral letters on Hispanic
ministry; and (6) often uses the
contextual approach of
liberation theology.
